It has been all over the news today that Massachusetts dramatically expanding late term abortion access. Tennessee pro-life advocates and politicians have rightly called this evil—but their disgust holds little weight considering that, according to God’s Word, pro-life laws in our state (and every other pro-life state) are just as abominable.
Tennessee’s current abortion law is known as the Human Life Protection Act. This act grants pregnant women legal immunity (Section 2(e)) to murder their child(ren) in the womb with “any instrument, medicine, drug, or any other substance or device” until birth. All pro-life laws currently on the books in the United States grant this legal immunity to pregnant women.. It does not matter the reason the mother murdered the child, it does matter the circumstance, it does not matter the child’s gestational age. No matter how horrific or how much malice and forethought the murder of the pre-born child was committed with, pregnant mothers have complete legal immunity to murder that child. In God’s Word, He states that acquitting the guilty, as both pro-life and pro-abortion laws do, is an abomination in His sight (Proverbs 17:15). These laws also employ unequal weights and measures, as they treat the murder of human beings in the womb differently from the murder of human beings outside the womb. God declares in Proverbs 20:10 that this is also an abomination in His sight.
These laws also show partiality in judgment. Biblically, partiality means to “discern faces” or to “accept a face.” It is to pull the blindfold off Lady Justice and say that if the person before her who murdered an innocent human being is the pre-born baby’s mother, then she cannot be held legally responsible as other individuals can. Showing partiality is condemned throughout Scripture (James 2:9, Romans 2:11, Acts 10:34, Deuteronomy 10:17). In Leviticus 19:15, God says that showing partiality in the court is injustice.
As outraged as people rightly are about Massachusetts, they should be as equally outraged about pro-life laws that grant pregnant women who willfully murder their children in the womb legal immunity until birth. Both are an abomination in God’s sight. God shows no partiality. He hates one as much as He hates the other. Any law that provides legal immunity to anyone willfully murdering another innocent image bearer, in or out of the womb, is an abomination to Him. That is why we, as Abolitionists, will not support any law that does not treat the murder of a child inside the womb the same as the murder of a child outside the womb. Justice must be established equally and without partiality because that is what God demands.
