We have made the point multiple times that as much as TN Right to Life (TNRTL) and their endorsed politicians continue to decry the “abortion industry,” they are the reason it continues to thrive in Tennessee. Here are the four ways they accomplish this:

# 1– Our current Human Life Protection Act, championed by TNRTL, allows pregnant women to murder their children in the womb with complete legal immunity. Because of this immunity, for all intents and purposes, abortion remains legal for all pregnant women in TN. Our law allows her to use “any instrument, medicine, drug, or any other substance or device with intent to terminate the pregnancy” until birth. Granting legal immunity to pregnant women who willfully murder their children helps the abortion industry thrive.

# 2– Because it is legal for pregnant mothers, that means it is not illegal for someone to apply extreme pressure or to influence her to murder her child, as it would be if abortion were criminalized as murder. Those who pressure women to murder their babies can never be held legally accountable as long as abortion remains legal for the woman—it is not illegal to pressure someone to do something legal. Not only is this an odd way to show “care” for vulnerable women, but it helps the abortion industry thrive.

#3 – TNRTL’s current legislative strategy is to go after “abortion pills”—one method of murder but not the murder itself, similar to what leftists do concerning “gun violence.” All of TNRTL’s focus has been on the shipping of the pills, which does nothing to curtail abortion because of shield laws and out-of-country suppliers. Their focus has not been (and will never be) on those ordering the pills. There are currently no penalties for ordering these pills, receiving these pills, or taking these pills, which helps the abortion industry thrive.

#4 – The laws that TNRTL encourage their endorsed legislators to pass tutor Tennesseans that humans in the womb have less worth and less value than humans outside of the womb. The Bible says that the law is a tutor, and TNRTL’s laws tutor the culture that although abortion may be killing an innocent human in the womb, it’s far from equal to killing a human outside the womb—so unequal, in fact, that they grant immunity to the women murdering them. Not only that, even if a boyfriend or doctor were to help, it is still not treated as murder for them either, only a Class C felony (aggravated assault). Laws that treat humans in the womb as less worthy of protection help the abortion industry thrive.

Abolitionists, on the other hand, are the only ones actually seeking to destroy the abortion industry in TN. We, unlike TNRTL, believe babies in the womb have EQUAL value to that of a born humans and are therefore worthy of EQUAL justice and EQUAL protection, because all humans from fertilization are made in the image of God. Establishing equal justice for the preborn—something TNRTL has stated they will always fight against—is the only thing that will truly bring the abortion industry in Tennessee to its knees.
